Porter Valley Walk - Bank Holiday Monday 27th December

Post by Guest on Fri Nov 12, 2010 7:47 am

Porter Valley Christmas Walk - Bank Holiday Monday, 27th December

As there is no walk arranged for Boxing Day, I've included this with the Sunday walks, as there's nowhere else to put it really!

For insurance, and common sense reasons, it is a requirement that people put their names down in advance if they intend to come on a Shamblers Walk.

Walk: Porter Valley

Date: Monday 27th January

Start time: Meet 10.15 for 10.30 start

Meeting point: Outside cafe in Endcliffe Park

Approx distance: 7 miles

Approx duration: 4 hours

Route: Porter Valley to Alpaca Farm at Ringinglow. Return along same route

Terrain: Good paths all the way, can get muddy/icy at times

Parking: On street parking at Hunters Bar/Rustlings Road

Refreshments: Cafe's galore! Endcliffe Park, Forge Dam, Alpaca Farm

Toilets: As above

Public transport: First buses from town

Walk Leaders: Scoobz, Tiddlywink

Additional information: Trim yourself up for this Christmas walk!

Doh! Got the months mixed up lol. Glad to see everybody's awake!

Talking about the walk. Has anybody got any suggestions for a shortish 6 miler, that isn't too far away from town? Loads of us are off to the panto later, and an early start/finish would be good.

The consensus seems to be that for a short(ish) local walk, that you can't beat the Porter Valley, so that's where the mystery walk will be - up the Porter Valley! Ermm, I suppose that no longer makes it a mystery walk!

Hi Jenny. As Bruno says this one will definitely happen, unless there's severe weather! We've actually only cancelled 3 Sunday walks in 4 years, which is 3 out of 200, so there's not much chance that this will be cancelled.

We don't normally put exact details until about a week before, but I would imagine that the walk will start no later than 10.30, last about 4 hours, and cover 6/7 miles.

Watch this space....................

I was just using the Sunday walks as an example Bruno. I know it's a Monday, there just isn't anywhere to put a Monday walk, and for this week only it's instead of the normal Sunday walk. I hope everybody else realises this!

Details have now been posted on the Opening Post, but for anyone who is interested in coming, please be aware that at the moment numbers are limited to 20, so it's imperative that if you want to go that you put your name down, and I'll update the list as we go along. Ta!

We may be coming on this, but reserve the right to change our minds, as 2 sons are flying to Spain to stay with in-laws & may need lifts; it may be too icy underfoot for al; & we may be hungover from the night before!
But, barring the above or any other unexpected turn of events, we shall be there! :D
