Derwent Edge - Sunday 28th November
Derwent Edge
It is a requirement for insurance and common sense reasons that people put their names down in advance for a Shamblers walk.
Date: 28th November 2010
Start time: 10.00
Meeting point: Lay-by on A57 at eastern end of Ashopton viaduct. Grid ref SK 105864
Approx distance: 8.25 miles
Approx duration: 5 hours
Route: Ashopton-Back Tor-Derwent Reservoir-Fairholmes-Lockerbrook Farm-Ladybower
Terrain: Well used paths with some wet patches. Two quite steep ascents
Parking: Lay-by on A57 at easten end of Ashopton viaduct
Refreshments: Fairholmes Cafe, Ladybower Inn
Toilets: As above
Public transport: 273 Castleton bus from Sheffield leaves at 9.0. Return time 4.0pm.
Additional information: The Upper Derwent Valley reservoirs are one of the most popular spots in the Peak District. High above Ladybower Reservoir, Derwent Edge is a marvellous promenade, not only for it's moorland views, but also for it's rocky outcrops which provide mini scrambles.
We are making this an earlier start than normal to coincide with bus times and also so we can get back to the start well before it gets dark
SHORTER ALTERNATIVE
If anyone is interested I will be leading a shorter (@ 6 miles) & flatter walk, if anyone thinks the main walk may be too much. We will be meeting with the other walkers both at the 1/2 way stage & at the end, plus we'll start 1/2 hour later! Please post if you wish to join this group.
IMPORTANT: Anyone joining the walk should be of a level of fitness relative
to the walk being undertaken, be appropriately dressed, have
suitable footwear, and have with them enough food and drink
for the duration of the walk.

I'll be there for the full walk. Is there a spare seat from Hillsborough or Malin Bridge? No point taking more cars than needed but will take my car if we need it.
